How To Keep Your Belongings Safe At Festivals

Attending festivals can be fun and exciting. There is nothing quite like the rush that you get from seeing some of your favorite bands perform in the open air surrounded by your friends and fellow fans. Along with the fun, however, there are important safety issues that you need to consider. Theft is far more common than you might think at festivals. Nothing can ruin your weekend faster than having your money or belongings stolen.

Even if you aren’t targeted by thieves, that doesn’t mean that your belongings are necessarily safe. It is extremely easy to lose items at festivals – especially if they are not properly secured.

Fortunately, there are some steps that you can take to keep your belongings safe at festivals. Here are some tips that you can use the next time you attend one of these events to ensure that you don’t wind up losing something that matters to you:

1. Only take what you need. Avoid the temptation to bring along a lot of unnecessary items with you to the festival. Instead, limit your belongings to only what is absolutely essential. Remove any jewelry or watches that you don’t need. You may even want to talk to your friends about whether or not you can share items with one another so that you don’t have to bring anything more than necessary.

2. Never leave your belongings unattended. It goes without saying that you should never leave anything of value in your tent or your vehicle. Would-be thieves are quick to spot any opportunity to steal valuables. Instead, try to find a way to carry your belongings with you so that they are never out of your sight.

3. Take advantage of zippers. Stuffing your belongings in the pocket of your jeans or in a handbag that doesn’t close is a surefire way to lose them. At most festivals, you will be jostled around by the crowd. This can cause any unsecured items to fall out of your pocket or bag without you noticing. By choosing bags or pockets that have zippers, snaps, or other types of closures, you can help keep your belongings safely tucked inside no matter how rowdy things get.

4. Invest in a crossbody bag. Rather than carrying a handbag on your shoulder, look for a bag that you can wear across your body. This makes it much harder for someone to snatch it away from you. As an added bonus, it also keeps your hands free so that you can enjoy the show without having to continually readjust your bag.

5. Limit the amount of money or credit cards that you bring to the show. Only bring as much cash as you need. Additionally, limit yourself to just one credit or debit card. Keep your cash and card in separate locations to avoid losing them both if you are robbed.

Proper preparation is the best way to keep your belongings safe at festivals. Always think about whether or not you truly need to bring an item before you pack it along with you. Additionally, make sure that you keep all of your belongings stored in safe, secure places, never letting them out of your sight.
